Common Questions

What MCAT scores and GPA do I need to be a competitive applicant?
Our program does not have a cutoff for MCAT scores and GPA. All our current students have different strengths and cannot be determined by scores alone.

How do I get an application to apply to the UCI MSTP?
If you would like to apply for the UCI MSTP, you will need to fill out the MD/PhD Combined Program section of the primary AMCAS application. The information provided in your primary AMCAS will be the information used to review your application for the UCI MSTP.

How many interviews do you have?
Our program plans to have 5 interview days for MSTP applicants. These days are tailored specifically for MSTP applicants and will include information on graduate program as well as medical curriculum. We typically have about 10 MSTP applicants visiting per day.

If I have more questions, who should I contact?
You should e-mail Chris Varrone who can provide you more detailed information on the application process. Program specific questions can be directed to Director Al Goldin. You can also e-mail the students in the program who are more than willing to talk with you.

Do I have to be a resident of California to apply to UCI MSTP?
Absolutely not! This program is partly sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. We welcome all non-California applications and encourage you to apply.

Can international students be admitted to this program?
Unfortunately, we do not have the financial resources to support international students in our program.
