Lab Advisor Devin Binder Department Anatomy and Neurobiology; Neurosurgery Academic Quarter Summer 2008 Project Topic Optical detection of seizure onset Project Abstract I optimized a protocol using optical fibers and laser light to detect a change in optical scattering in cortex and hippocampi before seizure onset as recorded by EEG. Seizure models used were pentylenetetrazole-induced and kainic acid-induced global seizures in anesthesized rats and mice placed in a stereotaxic frame.
