Post-Transcriptional Gene Silencing in Plasmodium gallinaceum by
Project Abstract
RNA interference (RNAi) is thought to be an ancient protective mechanism that uses short interference RNA (siRNA) to direct the silencing of gene expression in a sequence specific manner. Our laboratory has shown that A. aegypti exposed to CS or TRAP sequences through the Sindbis virus showed significantly decreased amounts of salivary gland infection by P. gallinaceum. By using Real Time RT-PCR, we hope to investigate the role host RNAi may have in suppressing P. gallinaceum infectivity.
