Family Medicine Clinic
(Irvine, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Westminster, Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano, Yorba Linda)
Goal: Provide longitudinal clinical experience for MD/PhD students who have finished the first two years of medical school and are in the midst of their PhD training
Frequency: Half-day clinic, once a month
Introductory sessions (3 half days) during the first week
Schedule: To be arranged between preceptor and student
Duration: Two years
Attendance: Students must notify preceptor and administrative coordinator (see below) prior to the clinic if they are unable to attend and make arrangements for a make-up clinic
Commitment: Don't sign up unless you are committed so that you don’t jeopardize this opportunity for future students. Remember that the preceptors are volunteering their time.
Evaluation: Not graded, but verbal evaluations from preceptor during each visit to provide feedback. Case presentation conference where students take turns to present a clinical case to the other students and several clinicians.
Clinical Entry Program:
The Clinical Entry program is designed to smooth the transition for
MSTP students from grad school to the clinical years of med school.
The program is intended to supplement the orientation sessions
provided for the regular med school class before the MS3 year, but
tailored to the needs of MSTP students. Students meet with attending
physicians, chief residents and MSTP students in their MS3 and MS4
years to find out what to expect as a third year medical student.
MSTP students should inform the Clinical Advisor, Dr Ming Tan, about a year before they plan to finish their Ph.D.
so that they can be included in the activities of the Clinical Entry
program.
