Parking and Transportation

A quick note on parking and transportation here at UCI. Of course, living on campus or nearby is great, since walking or riding your bike is not only healthy and fun, but CHEAPER. And if it’s raining, or you’re tired, or whatever, you can always opt to take the shuttle around campus. There’s a stop just across the street from Admissions and Financial Aid, which will take you all over campus, free of charge.

If you do decide to get a parking permit, you can purchase one online at www.parking.uci.edu/ There are a variety of different permits offered, including overnight only, day and night, weekend only, etc., so make sure you buy the right permit, for the right time of day, for the right dates. And be prepared to fork over—it will run you about $300 or so. After ordering your permit, you will have to go down in person to pick it up. Take Campus Dr. to E. Peltason. Go east. Left on Pereira Dr., and again on Adobe Circle Rd. The Public Services Building is the first building on the left side of the street. Parking and Transportation is on the second floor.

Once you have that trusty permit, you can park in student spaces all over the undergrad and med school campuses. Most of us park in lots 82 and 83, accessible from Bison. DO NOT PARK AT GOTTSCHALK, except on weekends and after 4:30pm on weekdays. Even then, park in the 24-hr. patient slots at your own risk. Those are reserved for UCI patients, and there is a guy who sits on the lawn overlooking the lot, whose sole job is to nab unsuspecting running-late med students who park there. You’ve been warned!!!

Finally, if you do get a ticket, remember, you can contest it, and it’s not that difficult. Just go online to www.parking.uci.edu/ and click on the option to contest a citation. You will have about 3 weeks to do so. Just provide your permit number, student ID, license number, etc., and they will generally let you off the hook for your first offense.
